Baby Shower Gift ideas

Ok, I know, you don’t need any ideas because you have access to their baby registry. Well, think again, you can always be creative and add a personal touch to your gift, something unexpected. I myself don’t have kids yet, but I have been to baby showers and I have given gifts to expecting friends. Here is a list of baby shower gift ideas:

1. Gift certificate for a photo session for baby’s first photos: I don’t think anyone thinks of this, even expecting mothers. This will eliminate some cost for the new parents and remind them to make an appointment before the baby comes.

2. Gift basket of baby products: Shampoo, lotions, baby powder, rash cream, etc. If you’re a mom, you know what these products are. These are all the things new parents don’t usually register for and don’t realize you need them until the baby comes. Use a small toy bin as the basket, it practical and creative.

3. Make a quilt or baby blanket. They may have already registered for baby blankets, but you just can’t have too many. Blankets are put down on the floor for babies everywhere you go, the park, grandmas, your own living room. And most moms want to wash these frequently. Find instructions for making a simple baby blanket at:

4. Art for the nursery: If you are a close friend, you’ve probably already seen the nursery and you know the theme and colors. Find framed art to add to the walls, but don’t go overboard. Most likely mom has already chosen a focal piece for the room (other than baby.) Choose a small photo that can go on an accent wall.

5. Baby’s first bracelet: These are adorable and perfect for newborn babies since many of them might not be identifiable as little girls. Plus, they can always keep it and it’ll remind mom of how little she once was. Find baby bracelets at

Precious Metal Prices Are Up

"Based on gold prices of $900/oz and $16.75/oz silver, Merrill Lynch estimated the current gold: silver ratio at around 54 times (or 54 ounces silver for every ounce of gold)."

For those of you who use sterling silver and gold of any form in your handmade jewelry, you've probably noticed the creep in price for our precious metals. Gold has made a huge comeback in the past few years, and has ranked high on the trend top ten list, however, silver may soon surpass this trend as the price of gold starts climbing out of reach. It's hard to keep up with the ever changing gold market, and clients aren't thrilled about the fluctuating jewelry prices, but we have to make sure we are paying attention to our bottom line.

To keep up with the market, and to price our jewelry correctly and keep our clients happy, get the Gold/Silver live update Widget. The prices are taken from Kitco.
